CANTON - Canton survived a tough challenge from Towanda, besting the Knights 38-26 in NTL wrestling action Wednesday.
The Warriors had a 7-6 advantage in weights won, with five of those win falls - Cohen Landis (113), Holden Ward (126), Hayden Ward (152) Bailey Ferguson (145), and Conner Davis (215). Mason Nelson (285) had a technical fall, while Levi Pepper (172) earned a 2-1 tie-breaker win.
Canton opened up a lead early, but could never separate from the Knights. Towanda got back to back wins at 132 and 138 to take a 19-17 lead, but two straight falls from Ferguson and Hayden Ward put the Warriors back up 29-19.
Towanda would cut it to 29-23 with a major at 160, with just three bouts remaining, but Pepper’s overtime decision nearly put it away, making it 32-23.
The Knights would get a decision at 189 to keep it alive, cutting it to a six point deficit, but Davis shut the door with a fall in the final bout.
