McRoberts Earnes Pair Of Silver Medals At State Track Championships

SHIPPENSBURG - Alexis McRoberts etched her name at the top of the girls track and field program with a second silver medal at these PIAA Track and Field Championships Saturday.

McRoberts threw 40-feet, 10 3/4-inches to take second in the Class AA shot put a day after taking second in the discus.

"It feels so great," McRoberts said. "Like I said yesterday, I put a lot of effort into this, and it's just a great feeling."

It was cold and wet as a constant rain pelted the competitors and watchers, alike.

"It definitely wasn't great conditions," remarked McRoberts. "I did the best with what I could. I was really making sure I was staying warm. At the end of the day I was only an inch off my PR so I can't really be mad about that."

McRoberts opened with a throw of 38-feet, 4 3/4-inches, which was good enough to get her on the podium.

Her best throw was her second when she was just short of 41-feet.

"I was just kind of thinking that I needed to rally put the desire into it because, at the end of the day, that's what it's going to come down," McRoberts said. "I was watching the girls throw around me, and they were all great competition, threat throwers, and I knew I was going to have to get a big throw in order to be able to be on the awards today."

Every throw after that was over 37-feet, including another toss over 40-feet to end the competition.

"It's a great blessing to be able to come out here and be consistent today, especially with the weather," McRoberts said.

McRoberts ends the season with two district titles, two district records, and now two silver medals - cementing her status at the top of the Canton girls track and field program.

"We've had a lot of great athletes that have went through our program, and I can't take any credit away from the, but I'm so proud of myself because I've put in the effort to be here," she said.

Lawrence Halbfoerster competed in the 3200, taking 18th in 9:39.96.

Halbfoerster was as high as ninth with 1200 meter to go, but then slid back to 10th with 800 left.
