Warriors Drop Rivalry Game To Troy, 12-3

CANTON - Troy baseball pulled away late from Canton, 12-3, during non-league baseball action Monday.

The Trojans jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead with the Warriors scoring two in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 1-run game.

Troy responded with three runs in the top of the fifth while Canton came back with one in the bottom half for a 6-3 game.

The Trojans got another one in the top of the sixth, then secured the win with a 5-run seventh.

Mason Smith (3-for-4) scored three runs with an RBI while Brendan Gilliland (2-for-5) had 2-RBI with two runs scored.

Trey Teribury (2-for-4) scored twice as Reed Palmer (1-for-5) had 3-RBI.

Logunn Heasley (1-for-4) scored twice with an RBI as Logan Loxley (1-for-1), Brody Ayres, and Frank Harper (1-for-3) all crossed home.

Harper got the start and win, going six innings with nine strikeouts, two walks, four hits, and three runs, one of which was earned.

Palmer struck out three in the seventh to finish out the game.

Daniel Inman (1-for-2) had a double with 2-RBI to lead Canton with Bailey Gardner (1-for-3), Reed Taylor (1-for-3), and Carson Castle all scoring runs. Trapper Burr (1-for-4) had a hit.

Inman started, and went five innings with two strikeouts, three walks, six hits, and seven runs, four of which were earned.

Ryland Wesneski tossed the final two innings with two strikeouts, three walks, one hit, and five runs, none of which were earned.

In the top of the first Smith, Heasley, and Gilliland all reached with Smith scoring for a 1-0 lead.

Palmer then brought in Heasley with a ground out, while Gilliland would eventually score on a steal of home.

In the bottom of the fourth Gardner and Taylor led things off with back to back hits, with Inman driving them in for a 3-2 game.

Smith led off the top of the fifth with a hit, followed by Heasley reaching on a fielder's choice.

Gilliland singled in Smith, followed by Palmer driving in Heasley and Gilliland for a 6-2 ball game.

In the bottom of the fifth Castle would reach on a 1-out error then scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Taylor to make it a 3-run game.

Trey Teribury would lead off the sixth with a hit, then score on a Smith single two batters later.

Loxley would get the seventh inning rally going with a 1-out walk, followed by Ayres drawing a base on balls.

After an out Trey Teribury singled to load the bases. That set up a 2-run error off the bat of Harper for a 9-3 game.

Smith then reached on an error as a Heasley walk scored Trey Teribury.

An error off the bat of Gilliland allowed Harper and Mason Smith to score for the 12-3 final.

Canton ends the season 7-13 while Troy will travel to Athens Tuesday with a 4:30 p.m. start.
